In Northern Kenya, age old traditions combat climate change and help minimise conflict

The lead singer steps forward, raises her hands and gently sways her tall slender body in a slow but enchanting dance. When she is done, the other women take their turn to do the same with each seemingly eager to outdo their counterparts. All through, their  melodious voices serenade the audience.

So far, most of the men have been sitting attentively, but when the women embark on a second more fast-paced song, a number of them rush to the podium. It is now all systems go as the beautiful high-pitched soprano voices get support from deep male voices to deliver a welcome harmony of notes.
